Who’s Getting Paid? The Week in Deals

With all the cash crunching going
around, a few cos out there are pulling in the dollars with some
potentially lucrative deals (after burning through millions in cash
over the last few years of course). Here’s what’s been going on the
last few days while you’ve been pushing drugs to docs or bitching at
your CRO:
Wyeth is buying Thiakis for $30M upfront and $120M in milestones. Thiakis has a Phase 2 oxyntomudulin product for obesity. Source
GSK is paying Ligand Pharmaceuticals $5M upfront and $158M in milestones for TPO mimetic LGD-4665, currently in a Phase II for thrombocytopenia. Source
Avigen sold the rights to its early stage blood coagulation compound, AV513, to Baxter for $7M. Source
Pfizer is paying Auxilium Pharmaceuticals $75M upfront and $410M in milestones for Auxilium’s collgenase program (Xiaflex) in the EU. Xiaflex is in development for Dupuytren’s contracture and Peyronie’s disease. Source
Abbott Laboratories is buying Ibis Biosciences (a division of Isis Pharmaceuticals) for $175M, all that on top of a $40M investment it made earlier in the year. Source
Dynavax Technologies gets $10M upfront and $200M in milestones for each of four development programs optioned by GSK. The four programs target autoimmune and inflammatory diseases such as lupus, psoriasis, and rheumatoid arthritis. Source
Theratechnologies closed its Tesmorelin licensing deal with Serono earlier this week for $30M UF Source
