Three start-ups we profiled in the past are making some news. Let’s get to it…
Trius Therapeutics
We profiled Trius Therapeutics back in March 2008 when the antibiotic developer announced a $30M financing. Today, Xconomy is reporting that Trius has positive results from its Phase 2 clinical trial of TR-701, a second generation Linezolid, quoting a ” 96 percent cure rate.” Trius CEO Jeff Stein said the company plans to provide more detailed results of the trial in a few months. Trius is debating whether to raise an additional round or seek a partner. [Xconomy]
Trophos
We also profiled Trophos a few months back and weren’t too easy on them. The company had been around for years, failed numerous trials, and blown through $millions of investors’ money. It turns out Trophos is still alive as evidenced by this study on clinicaltrials.gov. The company is apparently moving forward in a study for chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy with its lead drug Olesoxime. The trial started recruiting in April and is being conducted in France. [ClinicalTrials.gov]
Mithridion
Mithridion had a bit of a complex history as we discussed back in January, but managed to get their stuff together and advance their lead program. The company just announced today that they have Phase 1 single dose data to present at the C21 BioVentures Conference (going on now). Mithridion’s lead drug is MCD-386, an M1 selective muscarinic agonist for Alzheimer’s disease. The company plans to conduct an ascending multiple-dose Phase I study in the 4th quarter.
