Venture Update: Addrenex Pharmaceuticals (Sciele Shopping Hypertension?)

Addrenex Pharmaceuticals, which we profiled back in December 2008, announced positive results from a second phase 3 trial of Clonicel (extended release clonidine) in 200 children with ADHD. The study demonstrated that the combination of Clonicel with stimulant medications provided statistically significant improvements in ADHD symptoms compared to stimulant use alone.
Addrenex has partnered North American rights of Clonicel with Sciele Pharma, owned by Shionogi. The companies say they plan to file an NDA by the end of the year.
Interestingly, Sciele itself is trying to find a partner for Clonicel in treating hypertension. The clonidine dose is effectively the same, however the brand names are a bit different: Sympres (taken twice daily) and Sympres XR (taken once daily).
Sciele has been shopping the hypertension indications on Pharmalicensing for a few months now and has posted strict partnering rules:
A non-binding offer based on a confidential information package and Sciele presentation by May 15, 2009.
Selected potential partners invited for due diligence until June 30, 2009.
Target completion date for a transaction is August 1, 2009.
What? No like this product for hypertension? I hate it when companies are so strict about due diligence…OBNOXIOUS. Good luck wrapping up the various rights here and there…
