This
morning, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) ran a press
release saying it would offer a 50% discount on prescription
medications for U.S. patients who are uninsured “no matter a patient’s
income level or whether he or she qualifies for public programs.”
The story ran on FiercePharma, Trading Markets and a few other sites. Deirdre Connelly, President of U.S. Pharmaceuticals at GSK said:
“It’s innovating to help people afford their medications. We are pleased to introduce our Prescription Cost Relief Card, which will help no matter a patient’s income level or whether he or she qualifies for public programs. We feel this is simply the right thing to do, especially in this economy.”
Turns out GSK didn’t mean to send it out. A spokesperson, as well as a PRWeb manager, contacted FiercePharma to say the release was published in error and that it “was a test publication which was accidentally distributed through PRWeb.”
A GSK spokesperson added that patients have been contacting the company all day due to the confusion over the proposed benefits. Oops…
