Novo Nordisk Cruise (Spring Break) 2009 Underway!

Novo Nordisk Cruise Underway! We’re not sure if this happens annually, but thank goodness for diabetics!!! Novo Nordisk, the global insulin-maker behemoth, is sending 3,000 of its workers down to St. Thomas aboard the VERY nice Royal Caribbean Liberty of the Sea. The 5-day long PARTAAAYY, err “training workshop” is underway as we speak.

But not so fast! In addition to “training” there’s also some volunteering to do. Awww…that’s v nice of them. The activities will include diabetes education and awareness as well as painting and landscaping at the Lionel Roberts Stadium and weeding and repairing playgrounds and basketball courts at a number of schools and other public and non-profit facilities.

Ok, this is all good, but a few issues here:

  1. If I was a rep I would be pissed that I’m being taken on a pseudo-vacation (c’mon now, we all know it’s vacation) and have to weed wack.

  2. I don’t think Novo really wants to do this. They probably get some sort of tax break I’m sure.

Novo’s associate director of media relations Sean Clements said this:

“‘Voluntourism’ is part of every company function agenda. Any time we have a meeting or function with this company, we’ll always try to do a social-responsibility project.”

Finally, only 545 people are volunteering, leaving 2455 to partaaayy it up!

Who says there’s a recession?
