News, Money and Drugs - Friday, March 20, 2009-Ho-hum. Another day, another Pfizer fiasco. District Sales Manager guilty of altering off-label Celebrex documents. [BNET Pharma]

-One company got financed today: GenoLogics from Canada…go IT! [FierceBiotech]

-A little little acquisition took place today in far far away Spain. [BioSpace]

-Another potential setback for biotech and pharma today — a federal appeals court revived certain measures aimed at curbing abuse of the U.S. patent system and reducing the backlog of patent applications. Aarrghh! [WSJ]

-GSK is reducing its stake in Quest Diagnostics. Is GSK cleaning house? Need to make books cleaner for something, hmmm? [Reuters]

-Hey! Smoke your pipe and take some IL-10 at the same time! Scientists grow IL-10 in tobacco plant. [Reuters]

-And finally, a Brazilian wandering spider (these things are fucking scary) was found in a Whole Foods store earlier this week. An interesting side effect of getting bit by one of these things is apparently an erection (if you’re a guy that is. Women get the analogous effect). Anyway, read this article on FoxNews and scroll down to the VERY LAST sentence. Dude, a drug for erectile dysfunction DOES exist — DOH! [FoxNews]
