The big news of the day was BiolineRX. The Israeli company entered into a $285 million deal with Ikaria Holdings BiolineRX’s BL-1040 to treat heart attack patients. The drug is currently in a phase 1/2 clinical trial and is given through the coronary artery during catheterization. The drug, a liquid polymer, is designed to flow into the damaged heart muscle, where it forms a protective “scaffold” that enhances the mechanical strength of the heart muscle during recovery and repair. Finally, shares of Spectrum Pharmaceuticals (SPPI) were down today after the FDA issued the company a complete response letter for Zevalin. Though the agency doesn’t want additional studies, it does want the data that supports the product’s expanded labeling (ehhhh, this wasn’t submitted?). SPPI plans to respond by this Wednesday July 8.
