More Sanofi: Layoffs Coming

We’ve just heard again that the
axe will be swinging TWICE this year for Sanofi sales reps. The first
swing will come in April as we
mentioned last week. The second will come towards the end of the
year in November or December. The number of reps set to get pink
slips range between 1000-1500.
Interestingly, Sanofi just happened to be in the news quite a bit today; they just hired a new CFO who’s sure to crunch some hard numbers; Merck might sell its stake in Merial which is a JV with Sanofi; and finally, Sanofi is investing $126M in a Mexican manufacturing plant.
All signs they’re analyzing the books and cutting costs.
Painful times…
