More on Patrick Swayze and Vatalanib – Status?
March 30, 2009 at 2:41 pm EST | Tags: Celebrities & Entertainment, Clinical Trials, Gossip & RumorsWe dug a little bit more into this whole (reader) obsession with Patrick Swayze and Vatalanib. Besides, the post is our number 1 read article of all time.
Anyway, based on what we could decipher from the web and reader comments, it looks like Vatalanib did in fact have some sort of a positive effect on the actor although the side effects may have been too much – cold sensitivity.
Here’s an excerpt from Swayze’s oncologist Dr. George Fisher, an associate professor of teaching at Stanford University Cancer Center:
“Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far. All of the reports stating the timeframe of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue.”

The statement was made back in October 2008, however Swayze did say he was having some problems with the treatment (you can watch the video below) when he spoke with Barbara Walters back in January:
As recent as three weeks ago, Swayze told the NY DailyNews:
“I’ve started a new chemotherapy and, once again, I am one of the lucky ones with pancreatic cancer that is responding well to the treatment.”
Although we don’t know what drug or regimen Swayze was on, it does look like the battle is still on and that Vatalanib was working for the actor.
Hang in there buddy, and lay off the cigs – high tax!!! Get better, bro.
Btw, you can see the trial Swayze was on right here on clinicaltrials.gov. If you scroll to the bottom you will see that George Fisher M.D. Ph.D. from Stanford was in fact the investigator on the trial.
