MAP Pharmaceuticals Skyrockets After Migraine Trial Success,
Exits GraveyardPresented by BioPharm Process Associates

MAP Pharmaceuticals (MAPP) saw its stock triple in value today (up $5.47 or 172% to $8.62) as the company announced its migraine drug met all four primary endpoints in a Phase 3 study. The drug, LEVADEX (MAP0004), is an inhaled formulation of dihydroergotamine and is commonly used in an intravenous setting for migraines. MAPP’s product delivers the drug through a proprietary inhaler called TEMPO®, which provides faster onset of relief for migraine sufferers.

Here’s the data:

  • Pain relief: 58.7% of patients on LEVADEX vs. 34.5% on placebo (p<0.0001);

  • Phonophobia free: 52.9% of patients on LEVADEX vs. 33.8% on placebo (p<0.0001);

  • Photophobia free: 46.6% of patients on LEVADEX vs. 27.2% on placebo (p<0.0001);

  • Nausea free: 67.1% of patients on LEVADEX vs. 58.7% on placebo (p=0.02).

Here was CEO Timothy Nelson’s comments:

“We are very pleased with these results and look forward to continuing development of LEVADEX with the goal of bringing this differentiated therapy to the many patients who suffer from the debilitating effects of migraine. Market research has shown that migraine patients want medications that can treat all symptoms of their migraine rapidly and that are long-lasting as well as convenient to take. Unlike currently available migraine therapies, we believe that LEVADEX has the potential to address all these patient needs and to offer a significant advancement in migraine therapy for this underserved patient population.”

Back in February, MAPP crashed after its other Phase 3 study failed, that one for an inhaled budesonide formulation for children with asthma. We immediately placed it in The Graveyard, but I guess we spoke too soon.

Today’s success brings MAPP out of The Graveyard and into the spotlight as a new mode of relief for thousands, if not millions, of migraine sufferers.

Nothing but good news today – we like! Congrats!
