The company has identified a proprietary means of improving existing therapeutics by chemically modulating bioavailability and distribution.
The company has demonstrated in human clinical trials that its technology can reduce the tissue exposure of potent drugs without reducing primary intended efficacy. Proven benefits of this technology include reduced nausea and vomiting and enhanced cognition (memory tasks) following opioid exposure and attenuated tissue toxicity without impaired graft function in Limerick’s immunesuppression preclinical trials.
LNS-5310: an injectable efflux transport activator, for the potential treatment of neurotoxicity. In May 2007, a phase I trial of LNS-5310 co-administered with an opiate began. Limerick is also developing LNS-5662, an oral flavonol-based P-glycoprotein modulator, for the potential prevention of side-effects associated with oxycodone treatment.
In late 2007, a pilot study had recruited 65 healthy volunteers undergoing third molar removal and treated them with 500 mg oral LNS-5662 or placebo 1 h before surgery. All subjects were treated with 10 mg oxycodone post-surgery. Subjects in the LNS-5662 group experienced less severe nausea and vomiting and were less likely to request anti-emetics than those in the the placebo group. The LNS-5662 group also experienced lower pain intensity.
