Rumors are rumors, but we’re almost 100% sure these are going to happen. Let’s get to it…
First, we have news that Deirdre Connelly, GSK head of North American Pharmaceuticals, sent a rather suggestive voicemail to all US reps stating that the division had “missed its first quarter goals” and that “additional changes” to the sales force would be announced in May. GSK already announced they would can 6,000 back in February, but whether or not the “suggestive” impending layoffs would be part of the 6,000 or a new round would be announced is still unknown. What we do know is that more reps will be given their walking papers sometime in the late 2nd quarter and then again in the Fall. The pain…
Second, it’s been rumored that Zymogenetics will be canning about 10-20% of its people which comes out to around 50-100 employees. The company has decent cash, but needs to strip and make itself as lean as possible ahead of clinical data results in 2009 and poor sales of Recothrom, Zymo’s topical recombinant thrombin. Our source says axes will come this quarter.
The bloodbath goes on…

I’m sure it will be a new round and not part of the 6000. Sad, but true.
