Latest Financings and Deals - Cempra, GlobeImmune, BioTimeThere’s been a few companies who are getting paid and making deals lately. Let’s take a look…

  • Cempra Pharmaceuticals has raised $46M in a Series C financing from investors Quaker BioVentures, Devon Park Bioventures, Aisling Capital, Intersouth Partners, Wistar Morris, and Teachers’ Private Capital. Cempra will use the funds to further advance CEM-101, its novel macrolide for bacterial infections, and CEM-102, an undisclosed antibiotic approved ex-US for gram-positive infections. [BusinessWire]

  • Celgene will make an equity investment in GlobeImmune and pay $40M upfront. The $500M deal will give Celgene an exclusive option to all of GlobeImmune’s oncology programs, including GI-4000, a Tarmogen technology-based compound currently in a phase 2 study in patients with pancreatic cancer.   • BioTime (BTIM) raised $4M in an equity financing from two private investors. The deal comes as a result of the sale of 2.2M common shares and 2.2M stock purchase warrants, the latter of which have an exercise price of $2.00/share and expire on October 31, 2010. BioTime’s lead product, Hextend®, is a blood plasma expander used in surgery and emergency trauma situations. [Pharmalive]

  • Anaphore said that it has raised an additional $13M in its Series A preferred stock financing. The funds will be used to advance Anaphore’s Atrimer(TM) drug candidates — a new class of protein therapeutics. The round brings the company’s total size to $38M. Investors included SR One, Merck Serono Ventures, Aravis SA, 5AM Ventures, Versant Ventures, and Apposite Capital. [Lifescience Online]

  • Finally, XOMA said this morning that it has entered into a definitive agreement with an institutional investor to sell 11,764,706 units, with each unit consisting of one of the company’s common shares and a warrant to purchase 0.50 of a common share. The purchase gives XOMA $10M in much needed financing for its lead drug candidates: XOMA 052, an anti-IL-1 antibody, and XOMA 3AB, a biodefense anti-botulism antibody. [Yahoo!Finance]
