Los Angeles based Kythera Biopharmaceuticals announced today that they’ve brought in an additional $10M round of funding to close its series C at $40M. Kythera is in the middle of a Phase 2 trial to treat lipomas and chin fat using a propietary injectable formulation of deoxycholate (ATX-101).

Investors in this round included existing investors Versant Ventures, ARCH Venture Partners, Prospect Venture Partners, BBT Capital Management/Apothecary Capital, JAFCO, PFM, and Altitude Life Science Ventures.

Kythera is a company we profiled back in January 2009 and remain somewhat skeptical on.
