Let’s check out the week’s financings we didn’t mention…
Limerick Biopharma, which we profiled back in March 2008, raised $15M from OVP Venture Partners. Limerick’s technology can potentially reduce the tissue exposure of drugs without reducing their intended efficacy. Applications include reduced nausea and vomiting and enhanced cognition (memory tasks) following opioid exposure and attenuated tissue toxicity without impaired graft function in Limerick’s immunesuppression studies. America Stem Cell, Inc. was awarded $2.5M from the State of Texas Emerging Technology Fund (ETF). The funding will be used to advance the company’s enzyme technology for harvesting and engrafting cord blood stem cells which will be used for cancer patients receiving stem cell transplants. According to Xconomy, Femta Pharmaceuticals is raising $1M to advance its protein therapeutic platform. Femta has been financed by Latterell Venture Partners in the past. [Xconomy]
Finally, Cognition Therapeutics Inc. said it raised $1.21M in a Series A financing. The funds were provided by Ogden CAP, LLC, M5Invest Partners, the Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse, Innovation Works (Pittsburgh), and several individual investors. Cognition will use the proceeds to advance its lead molecules which block the activity of the toxic oligomeric form of Abeta protein that can interfere with normal learning and memory. [PRNewswire]
