- One week after doing a deal with Wyeth, Catalyst Biosciences announced a research and licensing deal with MedImmune worth up to $195 million in upfront fees, employee support and milestones. The pair will develop novel engineered proteases that specifically degrade or modulate two targets, one of which will address inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. [FierceBiotech]
OXiGENE, Inc. is exercising its option to acquire all of the equity of Symphony ViDA, Inc. in exchange for six million newly-issued shares of OXiGENE common stock. OXiGENE will re-acquire all rights to the ZYBRESTAT for ophthalmology and OXi4503 programs that are currently licensed to Symphony ViDA. In addition, the approximately $12.5 million in cash currently held by Symphony ViDA will become available for use for OXiGENE’s general corporate purposes. [GlobeNewswire]
Morphosys has extended its R&D alliance with Novartis. Under the deal, Novartis will commit to a ten year strategic alliance, which was originally signed in December 2007. [Reuters UK]
Proteome Sciences and Millipore Corporation said yesterday that the companies have entered into an exclusive license agreement to study Alzheimer’s disease. Millipore will develop Luminex bead-based multiplex immunoassays to measure Proteome Sciences’ proprietary Alzheimer’s disease biomarkers. [TradingMarkets]
Finally, Denmark’s Lundbeck greed to buy Britain’s LifeHealth for $147 million. LifeHealth holds rights to Xenazine, also called tetrabenazine, which is a treatment for chorea, a symptom associated with Huntington’s disease. The acquisition follows Lundbeck’s March purchase of Ovation Pharmaceuticals, which also included U.S. rights for Xenazine. [Reuters]
