Angion Biomedica – An HGF Mimetic
January 11, 2009 at 6:46 pm EST | Tags: Start-Ups & Ventures
We don’t know much about this one, but it’s still a bit intriguing. Angion Biomedica is an ultra reclusive, private company working on anti-fibrosis and hepatic therapies. Their main product is an HGF (hepatocyte growth factor) mimetic which is in development for prevention of congestive heart failure (CHF), acute renal failure (ARF) and chronic hepatic fibrosis. The science comes out of the years of research done by the company’s CEO, Itzhak Goldberg.
Angion recently completed what appears to be a proof-of concept (POC) with their HGF mimetic, but no details have been released.
Angion’s other efforts center around discovery and development of small molecule modulators of the HGF/c-Met pathway, inhibitors of PARP and blockers of the TGFβ1 receptor that are in advanced preclinical and early clinical development. Angion also recently announced a licensing deal with Memorial Sloan Kettering for a novel vaccine platform with trials expected to begin in 2009.
This company intrigues us because of the unmet need in ARF and hepatic fibrosis, and the strong science behind HGF. However, because of the lack of company and product details, it’s difficult if not impossible for us to make an assessment at this time.
